No Junk in this Trunk
Nice day today and time after work to get some things done.
I spent some time on Wednesday removing the taillight assemblies from the car and then last night I washed and cleaned them in preparation of installing them with the NOS seals I got from Alex at MBClassics.de. You can get an idea of how dirty they were from the picture below. The seals were pretty much fossilized and there was a thick coat of Arizona dust inside and all over the inner parts of the lenses.
The taillights got thoroughly washed, polished, and prepped for installation.
With the taillight assemblies off the car I took the opportunity to clean the paintwork around and behind them and put a good coat of wax on the surface.
You can see where there was some bodywork done on the left corner of the car. Fortunately, they got most everything back in place. Here’s the right side after being cleaned up.
You can also see why i’m looking for a replacement upper bumper piece, too.
Cleaned up taillight assembly with a new seal waiting to be installed.
I took the chrome crosspiece trim that’s over the license plate off to clean it and underneath while I had the taillights out. Found a broken rivet on a trim clip. I keep a few of these in my parts drawer along with some rivets, so I put a new clip on it and tossed the old one in the drawer for future use if I need it.
Put everything back together and wiped it off. Now if I could only find a right hand upper bumper....
Still haven’t decided what to do this weekend. Since I’m in the trunk I might go ahead and POR-15 the rusty surface spots on the trunk floor. Wood trim refinishing continues as well - the dash has another coat or two of varnish left to finish it off. I’ve got front sway bar hardware and bushings as well as front springs I could do, too. We’ll see....
