Dig My New Pad!
Dig My New Pad!
Dig my new pad!
Yup, finally got the new dash pad installed, along with all the related goodies. Nice!
But before I got the dash pad installed, I made a little side trip and installed the door trim on the right side, as I knew it would be a quick job and not take long. Or so I thought....
Before I could put all those little chrome plated screws and their escutcheons back in place, I had to clean and polish them.
Yes, I used chrome polish and a polishing cloth and polished the heads of each one of the screws as well as their corresponding trim rings. This took me about an hour. The screw heads were easy -dab them in polish, turn them upside down against the cloth and rub like crazy. The trim rings were a bit more labor intensive. Not only did I polish them on the cloth like the screw heads, but I had to use something to get down inside of them. This would be a Q-tip dipped in chrome polish. There are 28 screws holding the door trim pieces in, and each one of them got polished. Ugh. But the results were well worth it!
I did a time lapse of the dash reassembly/restoration you can see at the top of the blog post. Tough to see all of the things that took place, but it gives you an idea. I’m very, very pleased with the new dash pad I got from Selahattin, the eBay seller from Turkey. It fit perfectly and looks great. Here are some more pictures of the dash after everything was put together.
As you can see I need to get the AC unit back up under the dash, which isn’t a big deal. Next I’ll be cutting out a new parcel shelf and covering it, then start getting the back seat reinstalled along with the windlace and B pillar covers.
After that it’s time to tackle the front suspension and get the new springs and sway bar bushings installed.
