I’m Baaaack!
I’m Baaaack!
I’m Baaaack!
Finally!
I’ve gotten things sorted out with my distraction, a 2002 ML500 that hogs up a major space in my driveway. It’s pretty well sorted for now and will be sent off to languish in a neighbor’s driveway while they’re out of town for an extended period until I need it.
With that done, I turned my attention to getting my Becker Europa TG radio installed. A big thanks to Tom at Becker for getting me a shaft nut that I was missing and providing a copy of the installation instructions. That allowed me to understand the brackets I was missing to install the radio so I could fabricate a set.
As you can see the radio is now installed and working. While it’s not exactly what I would consider “high fidelity”, it’s the proper radio for the car and it gives me something to listen to.
The one thing I’ve got to keep in mind is that this is a tube radio, so no instant gratification - it takes a minute or two to warm up before working. This has induced a couple of panics before I let things sink in and realized this - turn the radio on and nothing happens!
So from here I think I’m going to re-attack the swing arm bushing bolts that were giving me fits. Along with that I have to refinish the wood trim on the door cards and replace the firewall material, and that will be the bulk of things left to do.
